After their great success with the pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk, and most recently with Beyond the Barricade, Masquerade Theatre Company is proud to present the rousing gothic musical Jekyll & Hyde. This musical is based on the classic tale of good and evil by Robert Louis Stevenson and will be directed by Anthony Bezzina.
Jekyll & Hyde – The Musical will be opened by a gala premiere on 8 May under the patronage of His Excellency Dr George Abela, President of Malta. This will be followed by a champagne reception to be held at Teatru Manoel after the show. Proceeds from this will go to Inspire (the Eden and Razzett Foundation). Ticket prices for gala premiere are the same as other nights however, tickets for the champagne reception in aid of Inspire can be booked through the theatre, or purchased directly from Masquerade by phoning 7979-3737.
Jekyll & Hyde is pure pulse-pounding theatre, with a lush romantic score, and that same amount of macabre combination of fun and fright that fuels such classics as Sweeney Todd and The Phantom of the Opera, and a lush, romantic pop score that includes hit songs This is the moment and Someone like you.
Jekyll & Hyde was a big hit on Broadway, and has since been produced internationally in more than twelve countries including Germany, Austria, Australia, Spain, Poland, Sweden, Japan, Hungary, Korea and the Netherlands.
The challenging roles of Jekyll and Hyde will be played by British performer Andy Reiss. Reiss has worked as an actor, singer, director and musical director in the UK. He is now the director for SmartMove Productions and can be seen on stage in the UK’s premier touring show – Beyond the Barricade. Andy Reiss performed in Les Miserables in the West End and in Manchester, Dublin and Edinburgh, playing most of the male roles including Enjolras and Jean Valjean. He also developed the Les Miserables Masterclasses in London through his work with Cameron Mackintosh Ltd and the Creative Masterclass Company.
Reiss is supported by a strong cast made up of Dorothy Bezzina, Brian Cefai, Emily Jones, John Martinelli, Katherine Brown, Rennie Vella, Patrick Vella, Neville Refalo, Jean Pierre Agius and a dynamic ensemble of around 20 performers. Music direction is by Kevin Abela who has recently led the orchestra for Masquerade’s Jack and the Beanstalk. The lavish 19th century costumes will be designed by Ernest Camilleri, the sets being designed by Adrian Mamo.
More shows will be staged on 9, 10, 15, 16, 17 May at Teatru Manoel in Valletta. Shows start at 8pm. Ticket prices range between e20 – e35.00 for all the shows.
