Court: Man jailed for car chase caper

A man was jailed for three months for driving at excessive speed to chase off a woman.

Nicholas Bellotti, 37, of Cospicua was also ordered to pay e930.77. His driving licence was witheld for three months.

Bellotti had been driving negligently, on the wrong side of the road, while under the influence of excessive amounts of alcohol and crashed into another vehicle being driven by a woman in St Nicholas Street, Cospicua.

The incident took place on 30 January 2007. The woman said that Bellotti had assaulted her, threatened and offended her as well as used blasphemous words in his language. He also caused her slight injuries after physically assaulting her.

He had denied driving into the woman and said he tried to leave the spot as he believed he saw a group of people coming towards him with the intention of fighting.

The court was presided over by magistrate Lawrence Quintano.

Bellotti was also found guilty of relapsing.

Prosecution was led by inspector Alexander Grech.
