MCAST Hair and Beauty Marathon 2009
The 15th edition of the Hair and Beauty Marathon will be held between tomorrow and Monday. The event, to be held at the Institute of Community Services, MCAST Main Campus, Paola, will start at 11am on Sunday and will end on Monday at midnight. During the 36-hour marathon, the MCAST students will be working together with professional hairdressers and beauty therapists to provide hair and beauty services at a discounted rate. This year the proceeds will go to the Malta Community Chest Fund.

Students from the other MCAST Institutes will organise a number of activities and events to support the hair and beauty services. Students following the MCAST-BTEC National Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development will provide a child-minding service at specific times while Agribusiness students will be selling a variety of herbs and plants. A group of students will also be selling a variety of delicacies prepared by themselves and others will organise a car wash.

This year there are also a variety of fund-raising activities to be held in Gozo. These will include a car wash tomorrow from 9am onwards at Rabat, Gozo near the bus terminus. Also a concert ‘Our Voice 4 U’ will be held at Aula Mgr Farrugia, St George’s Basilica, Victoria on tomorrow at 8pm. The concert will feature singers Martina Galea, Victor Bonanno, Tom Gardner, pianist Jenny Meade and violinist Tatjana Chircop.

The event will be transmitted ‘live’ on Education Channel 22 with various links with other local TV stations. Popular local singers, dancers and artists will provide entertainment.

Televiewers can make a donation by sending an SMS to 5061-7357 for a e2.33 pledge or 5061-8087 for a e4.66 pledge. They may also call on 5004-9053 to donate e7, 5004-9055 to donate e12 or 5004-9050 to donate e23.

Dorothy Meli, Director of the Institute of Community Services stated “The MCAST Hair and Beauty Marathon is an invaluable experience both for MCAST students and staff. Besides contributing to a worthwhile cause MCAST students have the opportunity to demonstrate social awareness in a very tangible way, gain practical experience and develop the skills and attitudes valued by society and employers”.

This event will not be possible without the support of Education 22 and Eugene Perma salon products.
