Barocco Cultural Events will be presenting ‘Guitar Masterpieces’ at the Sagrestia Vault, Valletta Waterfront on Friday at 7.30pm. The recital will be providing a platform for classical guitarist Evan Plumpton who will be performing solo a number of classical guitar compositions.
The programme includes Suite No 4 BWV 1006a composed by Johann Sebastian Bach, a German Baroque composer and organist who composed this work for originally a solo violin but later made adaptations for the guitar which was gradually replacing the lute.
Born in Malta in 1970, Evan Plumpton started guitar lessons at the age of seven. Having obtained the FLCM (guitar performing), and A Mus VCM (theory) he furthered his studies with Simon Schembri (Malta), John Mills and Carlos Bonell (England) and Domenico Spada (Italy). He holds a BA (Hons) degree from the University of Malta in Guitar performance and is currently teaching at the Johann Strauss School of Music in Valletta.
Mr Plumpton performs regularly in established venues around the island including the Manoel Theatre. In July 2006, he took part in the international guitar festival held in England. This event gave him the opportunity to meet with esteemed professional guitarists, including John Williams, Julian Bream and Alirio Diaz.
