The Urban Development and Roads Ministry said that the government is committed to see the project through to completion.
In a reaction to Thursday’s press conference by Labour leader Dr Alfred Sant on the Park and Ride project, the ministry said that the project has been split into three phases.
The first phase consisted of improving the roads and junctions in the vicinity of Crownworks and Hornworks ditches so that all traffic can have access to the Park and Ride. Work on two junctions in Blata l-Bajda and another one in Floriana were completed last year with an investment of Lm120,000.
The second phase consisted in the issuing of a tender for the operation of the Park and Ride scheme. Although this tender was awarded, two objections were made by other operators who did not win the tender. Two appeals are currently in front of the Arbitration Centre.
The third phase involves infrastructural works on the site of Hornworks and Crownworks. The tender for this work was approved by the Committee of Contracts and is currently within the two-week period allowed for objections to be made. This period closes on 6 June.
