Tickets for the Malta Arts Festival – Summer 2006 will be on sale from 3 July at the Malta Arts Festival Information Stand, Freedom Square, Valletta.
The opening hours are as follows: From 3 July: weekdays from 8.30am to 1pm, weekends from 10am to 1pm. From 28 July: weekdays from 8.30am to 1pm and 5pm to 9.30pm, and weekends from 10am to 1pm and 5pm to 9.30pm.
The festival, organised by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, will run from 28 July to 20 August, and the main events will be held at the ruins of the Old Opera House in Valletta. Chamber recitals will be held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, SUPA theatre performances at MITP theatre, a photographic exhibition at St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity in Valletta and a music-theatre event at the Grand Harbour Marina, Vittoriosa. Freedom Square in Valletta will be transformed into a garden setting with a sculpture exhibition and performance space.
The Malta Arts Festival – Summer 2006 promises a most exciting schedule of events. Among the highlights there is the National Orchestra Goes Pop with Vodafone, the Ballet d’Europe under the direction of Jean Charles Gil, Carmen Flamenco dance show, based on the opera by George Bizet, Nafra, NAFRA – Seven Suns and Seven Moons and the sailing theatre company The Ship of Fools in The World Upside Down.
The festival also includes a series of chamber music recitals, 1950s and 1960s popular tunes, contemporary theatre by the Summer University of Performing Arts (SUPA) along with literary evenings.
The festival also marks the birth centenary of the great Dmitri Shostakovich with a tribute concert Piano Trio by the renowned musicians Carmine Lauri, Enrico Dindo and Roberto Cominati, and the centenary anniversary of playwright Samuel Beckett with two of his plays being produced by Maleth.
The Festival is being supported by HSBC Bank Malta plc, The Valletta Local Council, The Westin Dragonara Resort and Bank of Valletta plc. Moreover, the events are being held in cooperation and with the help of the National Orchestra, the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Manoel Theatre and St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity.
The festival is also being complemented by an initiative of the Valletta Alive Foundation which will present BoV Streets Alive!
