‘Hooliginali’ – Hooligan’s New release

Malta Independent Sunday, 10 September 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Malta’s rap and hip hop pioneer, Hooligan, is launching his third CD titled Hooliginali

Hooligan made his stunning debut on the local music scene in February 2003 with his album Originali Bhali, which was an immediate hit. Tracks from the album shot to the top of both radio DJs/presenters and their listeners' list of favourite songs. Since then, the young artist has performed in hundreds of musical events around Malta and Gozo. Hooligan's second project, which followed a similar curve, was the single Niehdu Buzz, released in the summer of 2004.

This third CD, Hooliginali, comprises 12 tracks, including three in English, as well as an intro and an outro. It also includes the music video of Niehdu Buzz as a bonus track.

In Hooliginali, Hooligan experiments with the fusion of rap and hip hop with other music genres, from pop and reggae to classical. In fact, this album contains songs performed by Hooligan with several other singers – some renowned and others still budding – hailing from different musical backgrounds: Ira Losco, Julie Zahra, Debbie Scerri, Aldo Busuttil, Joe Demicoli, 6th Symphony, Dime N.D., She2s, Simone Debattista and a Peruvian Band.

“I want this latest CD of mine to be a gift to all my fans and to those who like my music,” says Hooligan. “I hope that, while contributing to the consolidation of the local rap and hip hop audience, it also manages to attract people who have until now not been exposed to this type of music.”

The CD’s producer and sound engineer is Andrew Zammit and the sleeve photographs are Joe P. Smith’s. The album has been sponsored by Paul Target and Best Print.
