Alex Borg qualified into the knock-out stages of the 2008 IBSF World Snooker Championships which are being played in Wels, Austria when yesterday morning he beat local player Sebastian Hainzl 4-0.
It was a good performance from the Malta champion who knocked in breaks of 47, 114 and 73 to secure a place in the last 64 of the championships which start tomorrow. Borg is certain to finish second in Group H behind Pankaj Advani of India. At 10.00am today, Borg plays his last match in the group when he meets Robert Trinbacher of Switzerland.

The other Maltese player in the Men’s event, Simon Zammit lost his second match in the group when he went down to Kirk Stevens of Canada 4-1 on Saturday. But he won his penultimate match yesterday to make sure of a place into the last 64. He beat Manuel Urban of Austria 4-0 while today he meets George Louca of Cyprus at 13.00hrs.

From the Masters event, Tony Mifsud lost his fourth match from five matches when he went down to Rocky Cribb of New Zealand 1-3. Mifsud plays his last match today against Alexander Krnausek of Austria.
