A Spanish student, Andrea Montero Alvarez, 21, was caught by the police in possession of around two grammes worth of amphetamine. Lawyer Stephen Tonna Lowell told the court that since the drug was not normally considered to be a heavy drug, and that his client co-operated constantly with the police, she deserves lenient punishment.
Magistrate Myriam Hayman took note of this, and handed Ms Alvarez a six month jail term suspended for a year. Police inspector Trevor Micallef prosecuted.
