Bowls: David Farrugia To take part in Rome world championships

Maltese player David Farrugia will be representing Malta next week in the World Bowls Championships (Raffa category) which will be held in Rome, Italy.

Farrugia’s participation in these championships has been made possible through the initiative of the Maltese Olympic Committee. His kit is being sponsored by Full Marks Sporting of Fgura.

No less than 35 countries will be taking part in these championships which start on Monday and come to an end on Saturday, 2 October when the final will be played.

All games will be played at the Federal Technical Centre of the Italian Bowls Federation in Rome. Apart from the men’s category, there will also be a women’s category, in which 23 countries will take part, and an under 21 category with 22 participants.

The 35 participants in the men’s category, including David Farrugia, will be divided into eight groups of four or five players in each group, with the top two players from each group qualifying to the second phase. The group matches will be played on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The second phase will consist of four groups of four players and will be played on Friday. The four group winners meet in the semi-finals, which will be played on Saturday morning, while the final will be played on Saturday afternoon.
