The collection of photographs presented in this exhibition is not intended to be a comprehensive dossier of Richard England’s work. These photographs were chosen by Richard England and the photographer following numerous meetings, site visits and editing sessions. This collection represents how the photographer saw and captured Richard England’s architecture during the years 2009-2010. The general public is invited to explore and enjoy this snapshot in time of this extraordinary architect’s work.

Earth: An Exhibition of Ceramics
Until 5th December at the Main Hall, St James Cavalier, Valletta
Ceramic artist Charlot Cassar presents a dynamic collection of wall-hanging ceramic works of art that explore the poetics of a transcendental landscape. In this fifth solo exhibition, the artist fuses visual and technical elements into a landscape that goes beyond a recognisable context, inviting the viewer to explore a new earth, sometimes barren and arid, sometimes lush and alluring, but always hauntingly beautiful. Fluid lines, texture and vibrant colours traverse the compositions, weaving patterns, creating spaces and intimate, secluded worlds.

Nessie: the Loch Ness Monster
2nd and 3rd November at Teatru Manoel, Valletta at 7.30pm
An innovative and entertaining show for children and their families presented by the international Purves Puppets Company from Scotland. The production combines humour, dance and traditional Scottish music to tell the story of a boy called Hughie McDhui, who meets a girl called Mairi Glengarry, who is running away from her wicked uncle –Naggie McCraggie.
The Collector
5, 6, 7 November at the Theatre, St James Cavalier at 8pm
Written by Mark Healy. Based on a novel by John Fowles. A Vermiglio Theatre Production directed by Albert Marshall starring Alan Fenech and Michelle Zerafa.
Frederick Clegg, a lonely, luckless young man, works as a clerk at City Hall and collects attractive butterflies in his spare time. He’s obsessed with a beautiful art student, Miranda, but unable to make contact with her. Fredrick’s luck is about to change while Miranda’s luck may be running out. After winning a fortune at the lottery Clegg (Alan Fenech) acquires a huge country estate and in a planned motivated scheme kidnaps Miranda (Michelle Zerafa). Miranda like his butterflies is only a collection to be preserved, pampered, indulged and imprisoned in a cellar. The play in itself is a pyschological battle between the two. Tickets: €13.
Revenance
A Wickedly Dark Comedy
about Death and Dying
12 to 14 and 19 to 21 November at the MITP, St Christopher Street, Valletta
When Magnus Coffinkey met his fate after falling from a gargoyle-studded bell-tower, his life had effectively ended but, owing to a freak coincidence, his existence did not. But does he have time to accomplish in death what he was unable to achieve in life? And why does Death speak with a Russian accent? Presented as a seemingly innocent and stylised children’s tale, Revenance will keep you guessing as to how much of the story is mere fantasy and how much of it is an insight into a tortured soul.
Revenance is written by Malcolm Galea whose previous scripts include the international hit Porn – the Musical and last year’s pantomime Aladdin.
Tickets for the first weekend (12-14 November) are at €10, and tickets for the second weekend (19-21 November) are at €12. Booking will be open two weeks before the play debuts although reservations may be made from now by sending an email to [email protected].

Masquerade proudly presents 13 The Musical, a new and exciting musical featuring an all teenage cast and live band. Celebrated for its explosive rock score by Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown, this is a hilarious grown up musical comedy about growing up. The musical is based on the book by Dan Elish. 13 tells the story of Evan, a Jewish kid from New York whose parents’ divorce moves him to Indiana. As the new kid, Evan has got to make friends, then determine if they are the right friends to have. The musical is directed by Anthony Bezzina and Daphne Said. Music direction is in the hands Kevin Abela and Roger Tirazona is responsible for vocal coaching. Choreography is by Claire Cassola. Set concept is by Pierre Portelli. ‘Strummin’Home’ is a yearly project organised by all members of ŻĦN in order to help a local charity. This year the concert will raise funds for the Equal Partners who among other services, offer help to children with disabilities. Smoking Pipes Exhibition

Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum is putting on a temporary exhibition dedicated to smoking pipes. Following on from last year’s exhibition dedicated to Whistles, this year’s exhibition will once again visit a little known area of the decorative arts to explore the surprising variety and rich history of pipes. Over 160 pipes, mostly drawn from private collections will be on display. Ranging from the common briar wood pipe to the more esoteric opium pipes and pipes used in rituals, this exhibition will provide a colourful overview of pipes and pipe smoking from around the world.

When Otto Schenk’s production premiered in 2006, the New York Times called it “brilliant” and “wonderful.” The old bachelor Don Pasquale wants to marry in order to punish his rebellious nephew, Ernesto, by providing himself with an heir and cutting the young man off without a penny. Dr. Malatesta, calling on Pasquale in his sunny morning room, suggests as a bride his own beautiful younger sister, whom he compares to an angel. Delighted, Pasquale tells him to arrange a meeting at once. Ernesto refuses to marry a woman of his uncle’s choice, saying he loves the widow Norina. The old man tells Ernesto he will have to leave the house. Pasquale then announces his own marriage plans to his astonished nephew. With no inheritance in the offing, Ernesto sees his dreams evaporating. To add insult to injury, he learns that his friend Malatesta has arranged the marriage of Pasquale, who gloats over Ernesto’s discouragement.
