Why have medicine prices not gone down? – Paula Mifsud Bonnici

Malta Independent Wednesday, 12 March 2014, 19:21 Last update: about 9 years ago

PN MP Paula Mifsud Bonnici today reacted to Minister Helena Dalli’s reaction when she criticised the government’s “lack of funding” allocated to the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority during the budget when it vowed to strengthen it.

Ms Bonnici had also requested Dr Dalli to present a list of medicines whose prices have been reduced in the first seven months in office, but it resulted that no medicines prices had been reduced by a PL government, claiming that a PN government had reduced the prices of 80 medicines in the first seven months in office.

Speaking in parliament, she said that if Minister Dalli, who is responsible for competition and consumer policy, “felt offended over her remarks, then this meant that this government is not a government that listens, as it portrays to be”.

Ms Bonnici was referring to her criticism towards the minister who she claimed reacted badly to her remarks because “I was saying nothing but the truth”.

She questioned why the government has not reduced the prices of medicines yet when the previous administration made a point to reduce the prices of medicines.

Ms Bonnici said nobody grabbed anyone by the neck to reduce the prices, questioning why this government hasn’t yet got down to reducing them.
