The Malta Tourism Authority’s German office has recently teamed up with the Maltese Embassy in Germany, the German-Maltese Association in Adenau and Air Malta in order to successfully showcase the Maltese Islands through a dedicated "European Malta week" in Monheim, a prosperous city in the vicinity of Düsseldorf.
The Malta week took place under the patronage of the Maltese Ambassador to Germany, Dr. Albert Friggieri, and the mayor of Monheim, Mr. Daniel Zimmermann. The event was organized by the Monheim section of Germany's leading cross-party citizens' initiative for Europe "Europa Union Deutschland", and the Monheim Adult Education Centre.

The Malta week featured a series of various events, each of which attracted an overwhelming number of guests who showed great interest in the Maltese Islands. These included a highly informative lecture about Malta's history which was presented by the Ambassador Dr. Friggieri. The fascinating history of the Knights and the activities of the German section of the Order of Malta volunteers ("Malteser Hilfsdienst") was another central theme.

At a themed evening dubbed "Malta for all senses", guests had the chance to experience a number of Maltese traditions and delicacies. They enjoyed traditional Maltese folk dance performed by the Paul Curmi Dancers, as well as a demonstration of lace making by the Ambassador's wife Ms. Catherine Friggieri.

Guests also experienced the gastronomic side of what the Maltese Islands have to offer through a number of Gozitan delicacies and wines supplied by Savina, as well as Malta's legendary soft drink Kinnie.

Aside from all of this, a presentation about the Maltese islands as a multi-faceted holiday destination was also given by the Malta Tourism Authority, Air Malta and Germany-based tour operators MSIS and Terramundi.

The Malta week was successfully concluded through an "Economic Forum" presented by Malta Enterprise, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Düsseldorf and the German Association for Economic Promotion and Foreign Trade.
