Former In-Nazzjon editor Joe Zahra and journalist Dione Borg have been found guilty of libel in a case involving Speaker of the House Anglu Farrugia, then still a Labour MP.
The case was about an article titled "Iridu jaharquhom!" published on 10 August 2000.
Dr Farrugia told the courts that allegations made in the newspaper were libellous and defamatory and denied plotting against Dr Sant. The defence claimed fair comment based on solid facts and public interest.
Madame Justice Schembri Orland awarded the Speaker €600 as compensation while the costs of court proceedings are to be paid by both the defendants.
Dr Edward Gatt appeared for the plaintiff while Dr Joseph Zammit Mempel appeared for the defence.
