The government has allocated €400,000 in EU funds for the restoration of the Casino Notabile in Saqqaja Hill, Rabat.

Details about the project were given by the Parliamentary Secretary for EU funds, Ian Borg.

Works will commence soon he said, and will be made possible through the use of EU Regional Development Funds. The restoration of the casino will complement ongoing works in and around Mdina.

Dr Borg said there were several proposals on the regeneration of the Casino Notabile over the years but, because of structural problems, these ideas never materialised. "At long last, this architectonic jewel will be restored to its former glory."

Mdina Mayor Peter dei Conti Sant Manduca expressed his satisfaction that the project has finally found the necessary funding.
