President Marie Louise-Coleiro Preca today unveiled a bust of Saint George Preca right outside the chapel in San Anton Palace.
She delivered a brief statement, and explained that the bust was given to one of her predecessors. She moved it to its current location in order for the public to be able to view it.
Saint George Preca is the only Maltese saint.
She expressed her pride in knowing that a Maltese person was such a visionary and quoted the Saint - "gid il-kulhadd, deni lil hadd".
Archbishop Scicluna mentioned that the 9th of May is the liturgical remembrance day for Saint George Preca, adding that this was a perfect day to unveil the bust.
M.U.S.E.U.M. member of the General Executive Carmel Cauchi thanked the President for the ceremony and helping Saint George Preca become more well-known - "even though he wouldn't be pleased hearing me say that," he quipped.
He spoke of the saint's humility, adding that in the beginning, the Church did not understand him, however later recognised the good he did for society.
The President was presented with two relics from the saint, one for the Presidency and one for her personally.
