Briton dies after being struck by boat propeller in Hondoq ir-Rummien

An elderly British resident of Xaghra died this afternoon after being struck by a boat in Qala, Gozo.

The 76-year old man was swimming in tghe bay at Hondoq ir-Rummien at 12.15pm when he was struck by a boat's propeller. 

The boat was manned by a 19-year-old man from Nadur.

The owner of the boat immediately took the swimmer ashore, and called the district police and an ambulance, who arrived on site shortly after.

The Briton was given first aid by lifeguards and a team of paramedics who arrived shortly after, before he was rushed to the Gozo General Hospital by an ambulance.

The man died on his way to the Gozo General Hospital.

Police investigations are ongoing while members of the Armed Forces of Malta are currently on site of the incident.
