Two people, believed to be Italian, were rescued this evening when a light aircraft crashed into the sea off Xlendi.

The incident happened at about 6.30pm. An AFM helicopter was quickly on the scene to coordinate the rescue. 

The Police have confirmed that the light aircraft crashed after an engine failure and was forced to make an emergency landing at sea. The two persons on board, a 55-year-old and a 61-year-old man were not injured.
