Body of man found in car under water in Marsaxlokk

A man has been found dead in a car underwater, police have said in a statement.

At around 2pm, the police assisted by divers from the armed forces conducted an inspection under the sea next to the area known as  tal-Magħluq in Marsaxlokk , following information received that a vehicle might be underwater.

The police found a Toyota Landcruiser with a male corpse inside. From preliminary investigations, the corpse belonged to a 36-year-old man from Birzebbugia.

A crane was used to lift the car out of the sea. The body was taken to the Mater Dei mortuary.

Duty Magistrate G Mercieca was informed and a magisterial inquiry launched.
