Legendary footballer Ronnie Cocks dies aged 73

Legendary football player Ronnie Cocks has died aged 73, Gzira mayor Conrad Borg Manche wrote on Facebook, posting a photo of the two together (above).

Born in Gzira on 1 August 1943, Cocks started his career with the team in his locality in the second division, aged 13. It was the start of a brilliant career that spanned 32 years.

In 13 glorious seasons with Sliema Wanderers, Cocks won three league titles, five FA Trophies, four Independence Cups, two Christmas Cup medals and other silverware.

He was a regular choice for the Malta national team.

In later years, he played for Hamrun Spartans and Pieta’ Hotspurs.
