Updated: First murder of the year - Egyptian killed in Gharb

An Egyptian was found killed in Gharb, Gozo near the chapel of St Dimitrius.

Police were called to the scene at around 8am. Blood was found on his body.

The case is being treated as a murder and preliminary investigations show that the man was shot. 

Police, together with forensic experts had gone on site. Magistrate Paul Coppini is conducting an inquiry. 

TVM reports that the man has been identified as Walid Salah Mohamed, a 42-year-old Egyptian who lives in Gozo. He was married to a Gozitan woman, but the couple was separated. Sources said that the man was killed on the site where he was found.

The body was found by the owner of a field close to the chapel.

The man is believed to have been killed by two bullers fired at close range, including one to his neck.
