A patient who escaped from Mount Carmel Hospital on Saturday was found dead this morning, the Health Ministry has announced. A Magisterial Inquiry and an administrative inquiry have been launched.

In a statement the ministry said the patient was admitted voluntarily on Friday. On Saturday he escaped after forcing open a bathroom window.

Upon learning of the man’s disappearance, the hospital administration informed the police and the patient’s relatives, and a search was mounted.

The man’s lifeless body was found on Sunday morning.

The magisterial inquiry is being led by Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras.

There is no suspicion of foul play or that the man's death was accidental.

On 20 May 2016 Briton Tom Stewart escaped from the facility after jumping over a wall. He was never seen again.
