The bishops have expressed their satisfaction that the government has allowed the migrant ship MV Lifeline to dock in Malta.

In a statement, Archbishop Charles Scicluna and Bishop of Gozo Mario Grech said they followed the diplomatic work carried out by the government.

“We appreciate the decision that the government too to allow the ship to enter Malta,” the bishops said.

“We understand it was not an easy job but it was essential to guarantee that lives are saved.

“In spite of being a small country, Malta has made a big gesture which, we hope, is followed by bigger countries.”

The bishops thanked all those involved in this humanitarian operation, especially the Armed Forces of Malta.
