On the agenda of the summit were matters such as rule of law, border controls and the challenges that Europe was facing with regards to illegal immigration.  Also on the agenda was the EPP’s congress which will be taking place in Helsinki, Finland, next month.

A number of heads of states and opposition leaders from across the EU were present for the summit, as were EPP President Joseph Daul, European Council President Donald Tusk and European Parliament President Antonio Tajani.

The EPP’s two candidates for the role of president for the European Commission, which is up for election in 2019, Manfred Weber and Alexander Stubb were also present, and both addressed the summit.

At the beginning of the summit, Delia requested the gathered dignitaries to join together in a minute’s silence commemorating the one year anniversary since the death of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.

Delia was accompanied in Brussels by his party’s international secretary, Roselyn Borg Knight.
