A planning application has been filed for a new home for the elderly in Hamrun, which would see the current building rise by a number of floors.

The total site area stands at 1,005 square metres, and is located on Triq il-Kbira San Guzepp and Triq Mile End, Hamrun. The application was filed on 21 December 2017, but plans have since changed.

The project involves the demolition of the existing building, and the construction of the home over four floors and three setback floors having a total of 214 beds with underlying two basements for a parking area.

The original proposal actually included fewer floors, and was going to comprise of three floors plus a setback floor. This, however, changed. The application also includes a roof garden.

The ground floor will house a dining and entertaining area with a seating capacity of 110 people and the kitchen. Each full floor (not including the setback floors), aside from normal beds, will also house the high dependency unit according to the plans.
