Informal exams to take place of end-of-year benchmark exams

Thursday, 27 June 2019, 16:26 Last update: about 5 years ago

Informal exams will now take place at the end of primary school instead of the current benchmark exams, Minister for Education Evarist Bartolo said on Thursday.

The current format will be phased out by 2021.

This follows 25 recommendations being given to Bartolo following a review of the benchmark examination process implemented in 2011.

Set up in 2017, the Benchmark Review Board came up with the aforementioned recommendation following a review of the national end of primary assessment.

Other recommendations included the potential of students being given different leveled papers depending on their abilities, and increasing the use of digital technology.

Essentially, not much is going to change because students are already being assessed in different ways.
