PN votes in favour of Minor Protection Act, insists unborn child should be given legal protection

The Opposition has voted in favour of the Minor Protection Act but said the government had still not included protection for the unborn child in the law.

In a statement, the PN said it had voted in favour of the law because it truly believes that protection should be afforded to children and minors.

However, the government had again refused to include protection for the unborn child. The government had already rejected the proposal made by the Opposition during committee stage.

The PN said protection for the unborn child had been removed in the introduction of the Domestic Violence Act. While it had rejected the Opposition’s proposal, the government had also refused to keep existing clauses that stated that circumstances where the unborn child was endangered should be reported.

While it had voted in favour of this law, the PN would keep pushing forward policies that protect the unborn child.
