A man is in critical condition after being injured when two boats collided near St Paul’s Islands on Sunday, the police said.

The accident took place at around 6.30pm. Members of the Armed Forces of Malta were called to assist the police.

A boat piloted by a 46-year-old man of Birkirkara was involved in a collision with another vessel piloted by a 58-year-old man of Swieqi, who had a 58-year-old woman, also of Swieqi, on board.

The Swieqi couple were transported to land and both were taken to hospital for treatment, with the man suffering from serious injuries while the woman was slightly hurt.
