Power cuts in the north of Malta affected the water supply and the drainage system, with the Water Services Corporation saying that people were advised not to swim in St Paul’s Bay.

In a first statement at 4pm, the Water Services Corporation said that crucial infrastructure in the North of Malta is currently down to accidental power cuts. Sewage pumping stations in the St Paul’s Bay area may overflow.

In terms of water supply, there may be pressure issues, but Enemalta has restored partial supply to the Cirkewwa Reverse Osmosis, so the situation should start normalizing soon, WSC said.

In a second statement around an hour later, WSC said that the services had started being restored in the affected areas.

In areas where there was a risk of a drainage overflow, people were advised not to swim.

Enemalta plc said on its Facebook page that there were disruptions in the electricity supply in S. Paul's Bay and surrounding areas due to a failure in the distribution system. "We wish to inform the public that our technical personnel are dealing with this issue to restore the electricity supply as soon as possible," Enemalta said.
