Heavy traffic jam in Marsa, going south; no shutdown for Santa Marija week

Monday, 12 August 2019, 11:47 Last update: about 5 months ago

Drivers are reporting a heavy traffic jam in the Marsa area, on the southbound lanes.

Infrastructure Malta is currently building seven new flyovers in the area.

Lanes have been realigned over the weekend and drivers are saying that this is affecting the flow.

The Maltese Roads Traffic Updates Facebook page reports that the traffic goes back to the Santa Venera tunnels.

In a post on Facebook, IM said that the work will not stop during this week, which is traditionally associated with holidays.

Over 200 employees of Infrastructure Malta, its contractors and other entities are working together, 7 days a week, to build the 7 new flyovers that will eliminate the Addolorata traffic lights, IM said. This €70m-funded investment is upgrading the busiest junction of our road network – the gateway to southern Malta.
