Cassola asks Standards Commissioner to investigate parliamentary secretaries’ salary

Monday, 19 August 2019, 10:02 Last update: about 6 years ago

Independent candidate Arnold Cassola has requested the intervention of the Commissioner for Standards to investigate the salaries received by parliamentary secretaries.

The request comes in the wake of reports that the salaries received by PSs has increased since 2013, reports that the government has denied.

In his letter to George Hyzler, Cassola said that the salary for PSs in 2013 was €42,000 but parliamentary secretaries had declared an income of €60,000 in 2018.

Cassola asked Hyzler to investigate how this €18,000 increase came to be, and why it was never made public.
