More than 100 paintings were removed from the National Museum of Fine Arts due to mould, TVM reports.

In comments to the national station, MUZA curator Kenneth Cassar said that the paintings were removed so that no damage will be done to them.

He said that the mould situation is not alarming and that they will be placed back in the coming weeks. He said that this is not the usual mould seen in homes, but mould which is not even visible.

Cassar told TVM that many of the paintings were removed just as a precaution and not because mould was found on them.

He said that the paintings were moved last December after spending 40 years in a different building, and certain climate effects could not have been predicted beforehand.
