Malta commemorated Victory Day with a series of activities, including a wreath-laying ceremony at the Great Siege Monument in Republic Street Valletta.
President George Vella led the ceremony, placing a wreath at the foot of the national monument.
This date commemorates the end of the two sieges on Malta: the Great Siege of 1565 against the Ottoman Turks and the end of World War II when Italy surrendered in 1943, which also meant the end of attacks from Italy on Malta.
Other activities included the commemorative address at the foot of the Great Siege monument, as well as the Vitorja pontifical, which this year was celebrated in Mellieha, one of the localities celebrating the birth of Our Lady.
