Norwegian man charged with causing death of woman by driving negligently

A Norwegian who lives in Kercem, Gozo, today was charged with causing the death of a woman and injuring four other persons by driving negligently.

The accident took place on 16 August in Ghajsielem. A 41-year-old Latvian woman had died as a consequence of the accident six days later, while a 47-year-old American man who resides in Swieqi, a German man aged 51 who resides in Xaghra and two boys aged 9 and 14, resident in Nadur, were seriously injured.

The Norwegian man was also charged of causing slight injuries to a Canadian woman aged 45, a 12-year-old boy and a 36-year-old man who live in Nadur due to the negligent and dangerous way he drove.

He was also accused of driving while under the influence of alcohol and for overspeeding, causing also damage to another car.

The man pleaded not guilty and was released on bail.
