56 migrants who were in distress in the Maltese search and rescue zone will be brought to Malta shortly, the Armed Forces of Malta confirmed with The Malta Independent.

This is the second group to be rescued by the AFM in as many days.

A wooden boat with 45 migrants, including women and children, onboard had been reported to be in distress off the coast of Malta, yesterday, and the Armed Forces of Malta subsequently had also rescued them. The AFM brought that group in at 6.30pm yesterday, the spokesperson said, on a patrol boat.
