Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi has launched the first phase of the scheme to finance double glazing for Birzebbugia tesidents, and noted that it will launch in October.
For the first phase of this scheme, €300,000 has been allocated. For this phase, residents who live in around 40 roads are eligible. The aim is to help reduce the inconvenience of noise pollution for residents from the Freeport.
These streets were chosen after a study commissioned by an independent company, and after consultation with the local council and focus groups.
The Tourism Ministry is expected to give a 90% rebate to costs, and every residence that applies for this scheme can apply for grant of up to a maximum amount of €2,000.
This scheme falls under the Tourism Ministry and is financed by the Freeport Terminal and the Freeport Corporation.
The streets chosen for this scheme are:
Triq iċ-Ċief, Triq il-Borok, Triq il-Gawwi, Triq il-Gandofla, Triq il-Qroll, Triq l-Imħar, Triq Kangu, Triq ir-Rizza, Triq il-Girgħien, Triq Garibaldi, Triq Baden Powell, Triq Nightingale, Triq G. Marconi, Triq l-Imnarja, Triq it-Trunnċieri, Triq K. Frendo, Triq Wied il-Buni, Triq tal-Papa, Triq San Patrizju, Triq il-Kummerċ, Triq Giuseppi Despot, Triq il-Progress, Misraħ Hamilkar Barka, Triq San Franġisku Saverju, Triq San Filippu, Triq Alessandru, Triq is-Sebh, Triq San Ġwann, Triq il-Gurgier, Triq il-Port Ħieles, Triq il-Ħaruf,Triq Arzella, Triq il-Kartaġinizi, Triq San Edwardu, Misraħ is-Summit u Wesgħa Carmelo Caruana.
Konrad Mizzi also said that Birzebbugia is also expected to have one of the nicest promenades in Malta, in addition to new parking facilities.
