Three men have been arrested by members of the Drug Squad and the RIU, which discovered them to have been in possession of seven kilos of cannabis and an amount of white powder suspected to be cocaine, all ready to be trafficked, the police said this evening.
A substantial amount of the cannabis haul was found in two large bags Swieqi in a vehicle being driven by a 47-year-old man from Santa Venera. In the vehicle was another man, aged 24 from Cospicua.
The cocaine was found after a search conducted at a residence in Swieqi, where another man, a 40-year-old from Serbia was also arrested.
Inside the residence a further two kilos cannabis was found, part of which had to be recovered from into the sewage system after the Serbian attempted to dispose of the stash as the police entered the residence.
Duty Magistrate Dr N Galea Sciberras LLD has been informed and has appointed various experts to assist in a magisterial inquiry.
Police investigations are ongoing and the men are expected to be arraigned in court tomorrow.
