A manhole situated in Pembroke Natura 2000 land is leaking sewage into the area and into the sea, a concerned Pembroke resident said.
The manhole, situated just 200 metres from the Reverse Osmosis, is damaged and cracked.
“At first I tried to tackle the issue myself, and reported it to the Health Department and to the Local Council. The Council pressured the Water Department to see the damages, but they brushed them off as nothing to be worried about.”
The resident explained that every summer workers come and fix the manhole, yet once the weather changes and after heavy rainfall, the problem occurs once more.
“People pass this area every day, going for walks, walking their dogs, and they can see that the sewage is leaking out into the sea and even worse into a place where half of the population get their water from,” explained the resident.
The resident said that the problem will only get worse with heavier rainfall and more pressure on the infrastructure. “This is a major job which needs proper fixing, and not just fixing the manhole every summer.”
