PD challenges government to accept US embassy’s offer

Saturday, 19 October 2019, 10:46 Last update: about 6 years ago

Partit Demokratiku said today that the Maltese government has not taken up the United States, through its Maltese Embassy, on its offer for additional assistance in the murder investigation of Daphne Caruana Galizia and to bring the person who ordered her assassination to book.

As the Prime Minister has promised that no stone is to be left unturned in the search for whoever ordered her assassination, Partit Demokratiku asks the Prime Minister if anything has changed since that statement. If the definition of being resolute were practised, taking up this offer would be a no brainer.

Partit Demokratiku said it believes that anybody who knows about the identity of the murder and who has remained silent is also complicit. Furthermore, if the individual responsible for the assassination truly turns out to be a businessman, then Partit Demokratiku demands to discover if this businessman has donated any money to political parties, or has engaged in any corrupt business practices with the government or the Opposition.

Partit Demokratiku declares that if the government ignores this offer for further assistance into the murder investigation, then it has something to hide. The United States Embassy knew very well what it was doing when it made such a public offer to assist, rather than a private one. Suffice to say that the probability that similar unofficial offers to the same tune were made and ignored by the government.

Diplomats, especially of the calibre of those hailing from the world's foremost superpower, choose their words with utmost care. Therefore, a refusal of further assistance must surely be one which is calculated to prevent the truth from coming out, PD said.
