Malta has been hit by heavy rain and thunderstorms, with several low-lying areas flooded by the rainwater.

The Met Office this morning issued a warning on the Malta International Airport website about the bad weather that was expected today.

Frequent thunderstorms with moderate to heavy showers and possibly hail were forecast by the Met Office.

The temperature, on this first day of November, is expected to reach a high of 23 degrees.

Areas such as Msida, Birkirkara and Qormi were flooded by the rainwater.

Drivers are urged to avoid these areas.

The Malta Roads Traffic Updates has published a photo of Wardija Road, which is often used to cross between Burmarrad and Mgarr, which is also flooded.

The same page is also reporting that both carriageways at Ghadira Bay were flooded.
