Malta participates at the Paris Peace Forum

Upon an invitation on the French Government, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat attended the Paris Peace Forum where over 6,000 participants gathered to design concrete initiatives and reinforce contemporary cooperation for positive change, a government statement read.. 

World leaders and high-level policymakers met with civil society at this global platform to discuss solutions to the challenges at hand related to sustainable development, gender equality, anti-globalism and sovereignty, cybersecurity, and youth empowerment, among others.  

For its second edition, the Paris Peace Forum showcased a number of projects following a call for states, NGOs, companies, foundations, think tanks and universities to showcase their ideas. The Prime Minister had the opportunity to visit some of these initiatives in the field of new technologies, mainly on the ethical principles for the governance of AI and on trust-building measures in cybersecurity. 

Meanwhile, as a symbolic gesture, Muscat presented the Paris Peace Forum with a first-day cover of a stamp which was issued 30 years ago on the occasion of the Bush-Gorbachev summit that was held in Malta. The Prime Minister remarked that the summit saw the end of the Cold War. "At a time when new tensions are re-emerging, it is time to remind people of this journey", said Muscat.
