Updated: No injuries as bus mounts centre strip, hits pole and trees in Floriana; driver suspended

A bus mounted the centre strip in Triq Sant’ Anna, Floriana, early on Sunday morning, hitting a number of trees and an electricity pole.

Malta Public Transport (MPT)  said the driver has been suspended.

The accident took place at around 6am. Only the driver was on board at the time.

The 42-year-old, from Valletta, was not injured.

The vehicle, however, was heavily damaged.

In a statement, MPT said a bus operated "was earlier today involved in an accident in Floriana. No one was injured in this accident, and there were no passengers on board the bus.

"The Company’s response team was immediately on site and an internal investigation is currently underway.

"The driver involved has been suspended, following initial findings of the investigation.

"The Company regrets any inconvenience caused and would like to thank the respective authorities for their immediate response and assistance.”
