Federation of English Language Teaching Organisations ‘deeply troubled’ by situation

Tuesday, 3 December 2019, 18:17 Last update: about 5 years ago

The Federation of English Language Teaching Organisations (FELTOM) is 'deeply troubled' by the deteriorating national situation and calls for immediate and firm action to address this crisis.

"Malta's reputation as a safe country has always been a main differentiator in our efforts to promote Malta as a top-quality destination to English Language Learners. Clearly, this is no longer the case," the Federation said in a statement.

"The English Language Teaching sector relies on the good name of the country and on the strength of functioning public entities to sustain its success. The repercussions of the unprecedented events in the past two weeks are already being felt in the sector and the wider industry. Prolonging this instability is destructive."

"This volatile situation is also harming our relationship with international partners and the longer this turbulence is allowed to drag on, the harder it will be for the sector to restore confidence in Malta. "

"The country cannot afford, nor does it deserve, this institutional uncertainty to continue any further. FELTOM demands stability and a return to normality."

"The sector, stakeholders, and citizens need the closure that comes only with the service of justice. We call on those responsible to put personal or partisan ambitions aside and act urgently in the interest of the country and its future."
