Tuesday, 3 December 2019, 11:57 Last update: about 5 years ago

Family Minister Michael Falzon today expressed his disappointment in some of the Opposition MPs who were directing the protestsin Valletta yesterday. “I have no problem with being hit by eggs, what truly worries me is that those throwing eggs and plastic bags full of urine are also members of parliament with us in the same chamber,” said Falzon in Parliament this morning.

He said that the leader of the Nationalist Party Adrian Delia promised for a ‘new way’ but instead what is being seen in current times is the ‘old dirty tactics of the 1980s’. He said that people do not change easily, and that protests could lead to bloodshed. “It is irresponsible, people must take on the responsibility and move away from the old dirty habits.”

Falzon said that yesterday’s event was pushing the limit and asked whether what he saw yesterday was truly the acts of a civil society. “If so, I don’t want to see the uncivil one,” he added.

He demanded for members of civil society and members of the Nationalist Party to take on responsibility for what is happening and to be aware of the way these protests are affecting businesses and the atmosphere of the country.
