The tunnel being constructed in Pembroke has just a few more days until works are completed, the Ombudsman’s Office said. The Commissioner for Environment and Planning in the office of the Ombudsman office was replying to a complaint sent by independent candidate Arnold Cassola. Cassola complained to the Ombudsman about Swieqi residents not sleeping for weeks on end due to tunnel works taking place at night.

The commissioner stated such complaints should be sent to the Water Services Corporation, which is carrying out the work.  He noted however that while the Project Description Statement stated that no works should be taken place at night, the Construction Management Plan had approved for works done at night.

“This office is not informed that any entity concerned has been found breaking regulations, but has been informed that there is only around 30 metres left for the tunnel to be completed, therefore a few days until the works are finished. This means that in the upcoming days the inconvenience will stop.”
