Alfred Sant ‘not convinced’ Daphne murder inquiry will provide ‘value added’

Former Labour leader Alfred Sant said this evening he is not convinced that the public inquiry into the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia will provide “value added”.

Writing on Facebook on the inquiry which is set to find out whether Caruana Galizia could have been protected better, Sant says he hopes that the conclusions will be beneficial.

“I hope they will lead to better politics in the way governments safeguards citizens, especially journalists, from threats,” the Labour MEP says.

“I am not convinced this will happen because I am not convinced that public inquiries, whoever is leading them, can provide value added to public administration,” he said.

It is probable that the inquiry will serve to provide space for arguments and counter-arguments to be made, and which throw little new or valuable light to repair what could have been done wrong.

“I hope this does not happen,” he concludes.
