National crisis: Family doctors express concern at negative effects on society

Saturday, 14 December 2019, 08:22 Last update: about 5 years ago

The Malta College of Family Doctors (MCFD) expressed its concern about the detrimental bio, psycho, social effects taking place in lieu of recent political developments that have led to a general feeling of insecurity.

The college said it seeks to maintain the highest standard of the Specialty of Family Medicine in Malta. By nature of the profession, Family Doctors inherently have a major stake at promoting and fostering the health of the society, to which they provide their services.

The state is responsible for upholding good governance and guaranteeing the stability of its national judiciary and political safeguards, the college said. The role of the State also extends into the promotion and protection of the Maltese population's health and social welfare.

The MCFD, thus calls on all responsible state institutions to ensure that the current national crisis is swiftly resolved so as to minimise the social and health repercussions that are currently affecting the general population.
