OPM employee Neville Gafa has come up in defence of his friend Keith Schembri, telling Evarist Bartolo to stop “spewing hate” and instead “do your job”.
On Sunday, Bartolo said a chief of staff should not be stronger than the Prime Minister and should not be allowed to become chief of government. In reference to Schembri, often described as the ‘de facto’ prime minister, Bartolo wrote that there should be only one Prime Minister at Castille, the one who was elected democratically.
Schembri resigned last month after his name was mentioned during police investigations into the murder of Daphna Caruana Galizia. Gafa is known to have kept close contact with Schembri after the resignation.
Writing on Facebook, Gafa said it would be better for Bartolo to carry out his work instead of spewing hate. “Why did you not resign three years ago? If you were not in agreement, why did you not move aside?”
Those without sin should cast the first stone, Gafa said.
“We have not forgotten that you had attacked the Prime Minister. You did this when you were leading a delegation abroad.
“One other thing: before judging Mr Schembri, I advise you to compare what he achieved for the country with your work,” Gafa told Bartolo.
