A man died on Saturday evening after being hit by a car in Gudja, the police said.

The accident took place at Bir Miftuh Street, close to the entrance to the Malta International Airport, at 8.20pm.

The 67-year-old man of Mellieha was hit by a car, a Mercedes Benz E220D, driven by a 37-year-old of Qormi.

The man was certified dead on site.

Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras is leading an inquiry.
