Adrian Delia files official police report to have Nexia BT’s Karl Cini investigated

Opposition Leader Adrian Delia has filed an official police report to have Nexia BT’s Karl Cini investigated.

On Sunday, Delia said he had instructed his lawyers to take legal action if an investigation into Karl Cini is not launched within 48 hours. He referred to the recently-published Egrant report, which had recommended a police investigation into Cini.

Delia filed the report at the police headquarters in Floriana. In comments to the media, he said: “I gave 48 hours to see if that which has not been done for months will be done, as the Maltese population is fed up of the lies.”

“As I said last Sunday, I have come here to put in a formal request so that the all the necessary steps are taken regarding the terms found on p.1459 of the Egrant report,” Delia said.

“The context here is that, as you all know, the government and even ministers had access to the content of the Egrant report for months. Some of these ministers are subject to a criminal inquiry,” he said, adding that even the two Labour leadership contenders had access to the report.

“They decided to nothing about it. Not only that, they even covered up and protected criminality.”

He ended by saying that the PN will continue to take the required action so that justice is served.

Following his comment, Delia was questioned on why he did not request for an inquiry on the allegations made about him.

He said two years ago the government had voted against an Opposition’s motion for a full blown investigation to be held regarding the Daphne Caruana Galizia case. He added that “if there is something to investigate, it is the government’s duty to do so. If they don’t do anything, it is a sign that there isn’t anything.”

“Either he (Joseph Muscat) has information or he doesn’t. The PM had been saying for months that he would publish it. He had said that something was bothering him - he was referring to information that he had and was dying to give to the police but never did. Then, when I published it, he told me that that was precisely what was bothering him. The PM of our country has no time left to ridicule his people, he has lost credibility and no one is believing him,” stated Delia.

When asked whether he filed a police report because of his lack of confidence in the Magistrate who is already working on the case, Delia stated that this wasn’t a question of trust in the magistrate. He said that it has to do with the work of the police commissioner, who did not give any updates on the investigations when he ‘resurfaced’ at the start of this year. “We came here to make sure that the police commissioner does his job and if he doesn’t do his job, he should leave his post. … Even if he does his work now there are still instances that we’ve seen in the past years that show how he is not fit for his role,” Delia explained.

Finally, after being asked if he will file similar police reports on Maria Effimova and Jonathan Ferris, who were also mentioned in the inquiry, Delia said he will continue to take any action that the government fails to act on, depending on what is revealed through the Egrant report or other reports.
